Northwest India Will Experience Normal Rainfall
National capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of northwest India are expected to receive “normal rainfall” during this month i.e. February while the cold wave days in the region are less likely, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Scattered showers with thunderstorms are on the cards over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.
Isolated rain or snow is expected over Himachal Pradesh.
Isolated rainfall may occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.
Air quality is likely to be very poor over East India and North India, Central India, Northeast India, West India and South India.

IMD Report
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) prediction, normal to below normal minimum temperatures over most parts of the country except northeast and adjoining east India.
“Monthly rainfall for 2023 February over northwest India consisting of meteorological subdivisions (east Uttar Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh) is most likely to be normal (89-112 per cent of LPA),” said the weather agency in its release.
Taking notes from the weather report, IMD Director General M Mohapatra said that Below-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of peninsular India during February.
In a press conference, he said, “The long-period average (LPA) of rainfall over northwest India during February, based on the data of 1971-2020, is about 65.0 mm. Meanwhile, days with cold wave conditions are expected to be less. Monthly rainfall over the country as a whole during February 2023 is most likely to be normal (82-119 per cent of LPA).”
In February, the minimum temperatures are most likely to be normal to below normal over most parts of the country except northeast and adjoining east India, northern parts of the west coast and some parts of northwest India, where it is most likely to be above normal, he added.
The probability forecast for the maximum temperatures indicates that during February, below-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the peninsular and some parts of central India, further the director said.
“Above-normal maximum temperatures are very likely in most parts of east and northeast India, east-central India and some parts of northwest and west-central India,” he said.
