Jamaat-E-Islami Hind Unveils National Drive To Promote Neighbourly Harmony

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind launches a nationwide ten-day initiative to promote neighbourly rights, interfaith harmony and community bonding across India.

Jamaat-E-Islami Hind Unveils National Drive To Promote Neighbourly Harmony

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has announced a nationwide initiative titled the ‘Campaign for the Rights of Neighbours’, a ten-day drive designed to revive the culture of goodwill and strengthen relations between residents across India.

The organisers have scheduled the initiative to run from 21 to 30 November 2025 and have anchored it in the theme ‘Ideal Neighbourhood, Ideal Society’.

JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini said the campaign seeks to rebuild social ties at a time when urban lifestyles and individualism have weakened neighbourly interactions.

He emphasised that Islam places deep importance on the rights and humane treatment of neighbours, describing these values as essential to building a peaceful society.

Addressing the media, Husaini highlighted that the Quran encourages kindness not only towards those living nearby but also toward ‘temporary neighbours’, such as colleagues, fellow travellers and even pedestrians.

He said the campaign aims to remind Muslims of these teachings and encourage them to reflect on Islamic values through their conduct.

“A society rooted in strong neighbourly relations naturally becomes an ideal society,” he said, noting that compassion, forgiveness and justice among neighbours can transform communities.

He expressed hope that the campaign would help resolve local conflicts and project Islam’s message of compassion and social responsibility.

Addressing Urban Isolation and Promoting Shared Responsibility

National Convenor Mohammed Ahmed said the initiative responds to the growing disconnect in urban areas, where neighbourly relations often take a backseat to fast-paced, individualistic lifestyles.

He explained that the campaign will promote cooperation, cleanliness, mutual awareness and road discipline as part of Islamic social ethics.

Activities planned throughout the ten-day drive include meetings with neighbours of all faiths, community tea gatherings and targeted programmes for women and youth. The campaign will also feature cleanliness drives, traffic awareness rallies and cultural competitions.

JIH said it will give special attention to reaching out to non-Muslim residents to encourage interfaith understanding and dispel misconceptions about Islam.

The campaign will also introduce ‘Know Your Neighbour’ initiatives and neighbourhood culture gatherings. It will further establish local committees to ensure sustained engagement beyond the campaign period.

The JIH Media Department, led by National Assistant Secretary Salman Ahmad, is coordinating the initiative nationally.
