In a landmark move for the global cement industry, Adani Cement and Coolbrook, a Finnish clean-tech innovator, announced the deployment of the world’s first commercial RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) at the Boyareddypalli Integrated Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh.

The project represents a significant step towards achieving Adani Cement’s Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated net-zero target by 2050, while also supporting Coolbrook’s mission to reduce 2.4 billion tonnes of global industrial CO₂ emissions annually.

The deployment marks the first industrial-scale application of Coolbrook’s RDH technology, which replaces fossil fuel-based heat with electrified, renewable energy-powered heat.

The system will initially reduce 60,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, with the potential to expand tenfold as adoption scales across operations.

“The world’s first commercial deployment of Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Heater within our operations marks a pivotal moment in our decarbonisation journey. This is a major leap towards achieving our net-zero goals,” said Vinod Bahety, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group.

Renewable Power Integration

Adani Cement will power the RDH system entirely through its large-scale renewable energy portfolio, ensuring that all industrial heat generated remains 100% emission-free.

By electrifying one of the most energy-intensive phases of cement manufacturing—the calcination stage—the company is eliminating reliance on fossil fuels while enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

“By integrating cutting-edge electrification solutions into our production, we are accelerating the shift away from fossil fuels, reducing emissions at scale, and setting a new benchmark for low-carbon cement manufacturing,” Bahety added.

Coolbrook’s CEO, Joonas Rauramo, hailed the collaboration as a transformative step for industrial electrification globally.

“Entering into the first industrial-scale project in the world with Adani Cement marks a turning point for clean energy in one of the world’s key cement markets. Together, we are redefining how cement is produced — cleaner, more efficient, and ready for a net-zero future,” he said.

The project demonstrates the real-world feasibility of clean industrial heat, positioning Adani Cement at the forefront of India’s sustainable manufacturing transformation.

Both partners plan to expand the application of RotoDynamic Technology across at least five additional Adani Cement facilities within the next two years.

As the ninth-largest cement producer globally, Adani Cement operates with an installed capacity of 107 MTPA and contributes nearly 30% of India’s cement used in housing and infrastructure.

This innovation not only strengthens India’s clean energy leadership but also underscores Adani Group’s commitment to responsible industrial growth and global sustainability goals.
