Former India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami congratulated Richa Ghosh as the Government of West Bengal conferred on her the ‘Banga Bhushan’, one of the state’s highest civilian honours.
The award recognised Richa’s pivotal role in India’s recent ODI World Cup triumph, where her composure and consistent performances behind the stumps played a crucial part in the nation’s success.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) hosted a grand felicitation ceremony at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, to celebrate Richa’s achievements.
Jhulan Goswami and former India captain Sourav Ganguly joined the occasion, marking it as a proud moment for Bengal’s cricketing community.
Taking to social media, Jhulan shared a video of the event posted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on X (formerly Twitter).
She wrote, “Thank you for having me. Honoured to be present at this special occasion. Richa’s journey reflects the determination and spirit that define Bengal’s daughters. Proud to see her talent being recognised at such a level, and even prouder to see her inspire the next generation. My heartfelt congratulations to @13richaghosh. Honours and Recognition
At the ceremony, the CAB presented Richa with a bouquet, a memento, and a cheque worth ₹34 lakh.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also handed her a golden bat and a golden ball, symbolising her outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.
In her social media post, the Chief Minister praised Richa’s achievement, writing, “Bengal’s daughters are Bengal’s greatest pride. I had the privilege of attending a special felicitation ceremony organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal at the iconic Eden Gardens, honouring Richa Ghosh for her outstanding contribution to India’s World Cup triumph.”
She added that the ‘Banga Bhushan’ was conferred upon Richa on behalf of the Government of West Bengal, along with the announcement of her appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the West Bengal Police — a gesture that reflects the state’s commitment to encouraging women in sports.
