PM Modi To Attend Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dehradun on Sunday to participate in a grand programme commemorating the silver jubilee of Uttarakhand’s formation.

The event, scheduled to take place at around 12:30 PM, will mark 25 years since the creation of the hill state.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several key development projects worth over ₹8,140 crore.

These projects aim to accelerate the state’s growth across crucial sectors, including drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill enhancement.

Inaugurations and New Projects

As part of the celebrations, Prime Minister Modi will launch a commemorative postal stamp to mark Uttarakhand’s 25th Foundation Day and address the gathering.

He will inaugurate projects worth over ₹930 crore and lay the foundation stones for new initiatives amounting to ₹7,210 crore.

Among the projects to be inaugurated are the Dehradun Water Supply Coverage Project for 23 zones under the AMRUT scheme, an electrical substation in Pithoragarh, solar power plants on government buildings, and an AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stones for two significant hydro-sector projects — the Song Dam Drinking Water Project and the Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project.

The Song Dam project will supply 150 million litres per day (MLD) of drinking water to Dehradun, helping to meet the needs of the growing population.

The Jamarani Dam project in Nainital is designed to provide drinking water, support irrigation, and generate electricity, strengthening the state’s water and power infrastructure.

Other projects include new electrical substations, the establishment of a Women’s Sports College in Champawat, and a modern dairy plant in Nainital aimed at boosting rural livelihoods and supporting the dairy sector.

Support for Farmers

As part of the event, the Prime Minister will release a financial assistance package of ₹62 crore to more than 28,000 farmers.

The government will directly transfer the funds into the farmers’ bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, ensuring vital support for crop insurance and strengthening agricultural resilience.

The Central Government carved Uttarakhand out of Uttar Pradesh on 9 November 2000, making it the 27th state of India.

The state initially bore the name Uttaranchal but officially adopted the name Uttarakhand in January 2007.

Known as Devbhoomi or the Land of the Gods, Uttarakhand is home to the revered Char Dham pilgrimage sites — Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.

The Foundation Day, celebrated as Uttarakhand Diwas, is both a commemoration of the state’s struggle for identity and a celebration of its progress and cultural richness.

As Uttarakhand marks its 25th anniversary, PM Modi’s visit underlines the government’s commitment to driving development while preserving the region’s spiritual and natural heritage.
