India continued their remarkable run at the South Asian Athletics Championships 2025 by bagging 18 medals on Day 2 at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium, Morabadi, Ranchi.

The Indian contingent added seven gold, eight silver, and three bronze medals, bringing their overall tally to 32 medals.

Sri Lanka maintained a strong challenge with eight gold medals and an overall total of 23, while Nepal stood third with three bronze medals so far in the championship.

The Indian athletes, competing on home soil, displayed dominance across track and field events.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, Nandhini K of India claimed gold with a timing of 13.56 seconds, while compatriot Moumita Mondal secured silver.

Wijewera Vitha from Sri Lanka took the bronze. The men’s 110m hurdles saw Manav R clinch gold in 13.78 seconds, with Ranatungage Roshan of Sri Lanka taking silver and India’s Krishik M earning bronze.

India’s Sanjana Singh continued her golden streak, securing her second gold medal of the meet in the women’s 1500m final with a time of 4:25.36 seconds.

Sri Lanka’s WKL Arachch Nimali finished second, while India’s Kajal Kanwade claimed bronze.

In the men’s 1500m, Arjun Waskale took gold with 3:54.58 seconds, followed by Sri Lanka’s Gallage Rusiru Chath and Rojideen Mohamathu.

Field Event Excellence

India also dominated the field events, with Neeru Pathak winning gold in the women’s 400m, clocking 53.15 seconds, while Olimba Steffi took silver and Mendis Balapuwa Sayu of Sri Lanka won bronze.

In the women’s discus throw, Seema led with a gold-winning throw of 55.14m, followed by Nidhi with silver, and Asgiriye Gedara Vinod of Sri Lanka with bronze.

The men’s discus throw title was secured by Kirpal Singh, who registered a best of 56.22m, followed by compatriot Nirbhay Singh and Sri Lanka’s WDM Milant Sampat.

Sri Lanka’s A Samaraweera claimed gold in the men’s high jump with 2.17m, while Indians Rohit (2.15m) and Aadarsh Ram (2.09m) took silver and bronze respectively.

Strong Start on Day 1

Earlier on Friday, India had a rich medal haul with Samardeep Gill (Men’s Shot Put, 19.59m), Prince Kumar (Men’s 5000m, 14:22.17), Sanjana Singh (Women’s 5000m, 15:38.70), Yogita (Women’s Shot Put, 15.85m), and Team India (Mixed 4x400m Relay, 3:20.13) all winning gold.

Silver medals were earned by Pranav Gurav (Men’s 100m, 10.32s), Seema (Women’s 5000m, 15:40.55), Ravi Kumar (Men’s Shot Put, 17.95m), Shiksha (Women’s Shot Put, 15.83m), Poorva Sawant (Women’s Triple Jump, 13.03m), and Dinesh V (Men’s Triple Jump, 16.14m).

Harsh Raut, Sudeshna Shivankar, and Sebastian V S added bronze medals in their respective 100m and triple jump events.

With two days of competition remaining, India’s commanding performance reaffirms its athletic dominance in South Asia.

Their consistency across track and field disciplines highlights the nation’s growing depth and potential ahead of future international competitions.
