
On the eve of Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi renewed his call for citizens to embrace locally made products as part of the celebrations.
Emphasising the importance of self-reliance, he encouraged people to recognise and honour the talent, innovation, and hard work of India’s own artisans, manufacturers, and small businesses.
The Prime Minister’s message aligns with the government’s long-running ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, which promotes the use of indigenous products and seeks to empower India’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
‘Celebrate the Strength of 140 Crore Indians’
In a post shared on social media, PM Modi said, “Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians. Let’s buy Indian products and say — Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai!”
He further encouraged people to share their purchases online to set an example for others: “Do also share what you bought on social media. This way, you will inspire others to do the same.”

The Prime Minister stressed that Diwali is not just a festival of lights, but also an opportunity to bring light into the lives of those who create with their hands — from potters and weavers to small-scale entrepreneurs.
By choosing Indian-made goods for gifting, decorations, and celebrations, citizens can turn the festival into a powerful gesture of economic nationalism.
He reiterated that being “vocal for local” goes beyond commerce — it is a matter of cultural pride, economic strength, and national identity.
Supporting Swadeshi is, in his words, about recognising the value of what India creates and claiming ownership of its potential.
This renewed appeal ahead of Diwali is also aimed at stimulating India’s economy from the grassroots.
Local manufacturers and craftspeople, often hit hardest during economic downturns, see a significant boost during the festive season.
