Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in New Delhi on Friday, expressing deep appreciation for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s pivotal role in the Gaza Peace Agreement.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, PM Modi highlighted the growing India-Egypt Strategic Partnership, noting its benefits for both nations, the wider region, and humanity at large.

During the meeting, PM Modi congratulated President Sisi and expressed hope that the peace agreement would contribute to lasting stability in Gaza.

Abdelatty briefed the Prime Minister on the first India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue, held during his visit alongside External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

The PMO stated that PM Modi expressed satisfaction with the progress in trade, technology, energy, defence, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Shared Commitment to the Global South

EAM Jaishankar emphasised that India and Egypt share a commitment to the progress of the Global South, strengthening the independence and freedom of choice for nations in world affairs.

He described the Strategic Dialogue as a milestone in bilateral relations, noting intensified cooperation since the elevation of the relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Jaishankar highlighted opportunities for collaboration in digital infrastructure, fintech, pharmaceuticals, space, startups, and green technologies, alongside defence and security cooperation. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges were also acknowledged as key pillars of the relationship.

The EAM recalled Egypt’s assistance in evacuating Indian nationals from the region in June 2025 and expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, underscoring the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

The meeting further reinforced India and Egypt’s coordinated political contacts, robust defence exchanges, and promising trade and investment opportunities, highlighting a deepening strategic partnership.
