U-19 Women's WC: India wins by 7 wickets against England
India women’s Under 19 team has created a new history by lifting the inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup trophy in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Sunday. The team led by Shifali Verma defeated England by seven wickets.
Highlights of the Final match
Taking notes from the match, India, who invited England to bat first at the Senwes Park, Potchefstroom in South Africa, bundled them up for 68 in 17.1 overs. Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra ran through the England batting line-up as they scalped two wickets each. Skipper Shefali Verma, Mannat Kashyap, and Sonam Yadav also picked a wicket each.
The Indian team in response chased down the target in 14 overs, with Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha scoring 24 runs each. Player Shafali was dismissed for 15, while Shweta Sehrawat, who finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, managed 5 off 6 balls.

Captain Shefali in the post-match presentation ceremony
After the final match of the U-19 women’s world cup, skipper Shafali failed to control her emotions during the post-match presentation ceremony. The skipper broke down as she thanked everyone for extending their support throughout the campaign.
Sharing an emotional video of the Indian skipper Shefali on social media, ICC wrote, “Tears of joy and elation.”

Cash reward to Indian team: BCCI Secretary
The BBCI secretary, Jay Shah has announced a cash reward worth Rs. 5 crores for the entire Indian squad after India’s triumph.
Taking Twitter, Shah wrote, “Women’s Cricket in India is on the upswing and the World Cup triumph has taken the stature of women’s cricket several notches higher. I am delighted to announce INR 5 crore for the entire team and support staff as prize money. This is surely a path-breaking year.”

Bollywood actor on winning WC
After conquering the trophy, Bollywood stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Kajol, Taapsee Pannu, Farhan Akhtar and Ananya Panday have given a shout-out to the Indian U-19 women’s squad.
Taking to Twitter post the World Cup win, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “INDIA CHAMPIONS !! Women’s U-19 world cup champions in cricket .. beat the British hands down .. khatiya khadi kar di .. INDIA.”

Taapsee Pannu, who was seen in cricketer Mithali Raj’s biopic Shabaash Mithu took to her Instagram Stories to congratulate the tea. She wrote with a few pictures of the cricket team, “The smiles on the faces of these young girls are priceless. Congratulations Champions. Let’s remember these faces. We won our first World Cup in women’s history today. And happy birthday captain Shefali Verma. You finally got the well-deserved gift. That’s the first World Cup for the ladies…And I’m sure there are many more to come…we have just started!”
