Weather Update: Fresh wet spell in Delhi and its NCR

Weather Update: Due to heavy pouring in the national capital, Delhiites might experience a comeback of the cold waves.  According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain will continue in Delhi and neighbouring regions for the next coming days.

Also, several parts of the northern region may experience dense fog amid the cold wave.  Due to the influence of western disturbance in the northern region, there has been heavy snowfall and rain in the mountains as well, resulting in severe temperature dip in the area.

In a tweet, the IMD wrote, “Impact expected and action suggested due to rain over Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas:  Water logging in low lying areas.  Occasional reduction in visibility.  Disruption of traffic due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.”

IMD on Weather Update 

The IMD on Monday morning has predicted light to moderate intensity rainfall in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for the next couple of hours. Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of Delhi during the next two hours, the weather agency added.

Further, it predicted that the same intensity of rain over and adjoining areas of isolated places of Yamunanagar, Kosali, Sohana, Rewari, Palwal, Bawal, Nuh, Aurangabad, Hodal (Haryana) in the next two hours.

Moreover, thunderstorms with light to moderate wet spells are likely to occur in most places of the national capital. As per a weather report, Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Kanjhawala, Budha Jayanti Park, Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Delhi Cantt, India Gate, Akshardham, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, Nehru Stadium, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, R K Puram, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Hauzkhas, Malviya nagar, Kalkaji, Mahrauli, Tughlakabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, and Deramandi area of Delhi will experience light rainfall.

The IMD said, “A Western Disturbance seen as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies runs along Long. 56°E to the north of Lat. 22°N. it is very likely to move eastwards and high moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea is very likely on 29th & 30th January 2023.”

Weather Alert due to wet spells

Earlier, a weather alert said that the approaching fresh cloud patches over Delhi were likely to trigger the light to moderate spells of rainfall over the city. On Sunday, the IMD predicted that Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas would face light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on the intervening night of January 29 and January 30.
