Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi, emphasising its potential to empower the country and create employment opportunities.
Speaking after inaugurating the first phase of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), he said, “Adopt Swadeshi. Garv se kaho swadeshi, which should become the mantra of everyone and the market. If people purchase Swadeshi goods and give gifts, the money will return to the economy, spurring growth and jobs.”
He highlighted the impact of GST reforms, noting that the recently concluded Navaratri festival witnessed record sales, reflecting the benefits of government policies for citizens and businesses.
PM Modi stressed that youth employment and industrial growth remain central to the BJP-led government’s Viksit Bharat mission.
He noted that the inauguration of NMIA and other connectivity projects would enhance Mumbai’s position as a global hub of growth and opportunity.
“With this, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will get its second major international airport, boosting commerce and connectivity. The final phase of the Mumbai Metro Line-3 will also be inaugurated, enhancing infrastructure and improving the ‘Ease of Living’ for citizens,” he said.
The Prime Minister added that NMIA symbolises culture and prosperity, connecting farmers to Europe and Gulf markets, supporting small and medium industries, and encouraging the growth of new industries.
Critique of Previous Governments and National Security
PM Modi criticised the previous Congress-led UPA government for failing to respond decisively after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, saying weak policies had empowered terrorists.
He praised the BJP-led government’s focus on national security, citing Operation Sindoor as a decisive action against Pakistan.
He also aimed at the Maha Vikas Aghadi government for stalling development projects, which he said had been costly for the state.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3, the Mumbai One App, and the Chief Minister’s Short-Term Employability Programme (STEP), aimed at providing industry-relevant training to Maharashtra’s youth.
He recalled the service of Loknete DB Patil, praising his dedication to farmers and citizens. He also reiterated the government’s vision to make India a global MRO hub and strengthen the aviation sector.
