PM Modi Inaugurates Final Phase Of Mumbai Metro Line 3 And Launches 'Mumbai One' Mobility App

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final phase (2B between Atre Chowk and Cuffe Parade) of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 on Wednesday, a project constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12,200 crore.

With this, the Prime Minister dedicated the entire Aqua Line to the nation, built at a total cost exceeding Rs 37,270 crore.

The project is expected to ease vehicular traffic across Mumbai and provide a smooth, efficient commute for city residents.

The new phase ensures seamless connectivity to South Mumbai, including Fort, Kala Ghoda, and Marine Drive, along with direct access to administrative and financial hubs such as Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, RBI, BSE, and Nariman Point.

Affordable, Eco-Friendly, and Efficient Travel

According to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), travel between Cuffe Parade and Aarey JVLR will take under an hour. Fares will range from Rs 10 to Rs 70, and trains will operate every five minutes from 5.55 AM to 10.30 PM.

The 33.5 km underground Metro, with 27 stations, will serve 13 lakh passengers daily and cut 2.61 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, highlighting its eco-friendly design.

PM Modi said on X, “Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line-3 is a significant enhancement to Mumbai’s infrastructure! Metro connectivity is essential for a city’s growth. This project will have a positive impact on the lives of the people of Mumbai.”

The Prime Minister also launched ‘Mumbai One’, an integrated mobility app covering 11 Public Transport Operators, including all metro lines, monorail, suburban rail, BEST, and municipal transport services.

The app offers mobile ticketing, cashless and contactless payments, real-time journey updates, alternative routes, estimated arrivals, and an SOS feature for commuter safety.

A first-of-its-kind Multimodal Journey Planner provides the fastest and most cost-effective routes, while also guiding tourists to city attractions and cultural hubs.

This initiative represents a major step towards the ‘Mumbai in Minutes’ vision, combining digital innovation with urban mobility to transform the commuting experience and serve as a model for Indian metro cities.
