The Union government began a nationwide initiative on Wednesday, spanning a month, to promote adoption awareness.
The awareness focused on children with special needs and encouraging their care in loving, non-institutional environments.
November is traditionally observed as Adoption Awareness Month. The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) has kick-started pre-launch awareness activities.
The campaign will include both online and offline awareness activities.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development said it set the stage for a more robust engagement during the official campaign.
The guiding theme this year is ‘community and family-driven reintegration for children with special needs (Divyaang children),’ focusing on personalised, home-centred care.
The Ministry said the programme encourages families to consider adopting. This will break myths and emphasise the transformative effects adoption has on children and families.
Inclusive Adoption Campaign For Children
As part of the awareness drive, a dedicated hashtag ‘#EveryChildMatters’ and a special logo have been introduced.
The drive focuses on celebrating adopted children, assisting those waiting for a home and applauding families who welcome them with care.
In collaboration with MyGov India, CARA has launched online activities. This includes poster contests, pledge campaigns, mascot design and sharing real-life adoption stories.
Organisers will carry out offline awareness events on child adoption all over India.
This includes states Ladakh, Assam, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh.
Offline events will feature interactive sessions with adoptive parents and children, cultural programs, competitions, Q&A forums and community.
Outreach campaigns aim to dispel myths and foster positive perceptions of adoption.
Families adopted 313 children with special needs in the fiscal year 2024-25. Of these, they carried out 83 domestic adoptions and 230 inter-country adoptions across India.
These showcase the dedication of families and society in providing care, dignity and love to every child.
