Russian President Vladimir Putin has credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for guiding India through one of the strongest phases of economic growth seen globally.
He said India’s progress stands out at a time when several major economies are struggling to maintain momentum.
The comments came during a phone call with PM Modi earlier this week. Putin noted that India has chosen to follow its own independent path in policy-making, and that choice, according to him, is clearly delivering results.
He pointed out that India’s pace of growth is among the highest anywhere in the world, and praised PM Modi for playing a decisive role in shaping that outcome.
Beyond economics, Putin highlighted the deep partnership between Moscow and New Delhi.

He described the relationship as one built on mutual trust, and made it clear that Russia is eager to expand cooperation in defence, trade, energy and other areas.
His praise also followed a personal message to PM Modi on his 75th birthday, where he acknowledged the Indian leader’s efforts to strengthen what both sides call a ‘special strategic partnership.’
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, India’s foreign minister met his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
Their discussions covered bilateral issues and wider global concerns, reflecting how both countries continue to coordinate closely despite shifting international dynamics.
For decades, India and Russia have maintained a steady relationship, adjusting to changes in the global order without losing their sense of alignment.
President Putin’s acknowledgement of India’s economic momentum not only reinforces New Delhi’s growing international stature but also signals Moscow’s intent to keep India as a core partner in the years ahead.
For PM Modi, the recognition adds to his global image as a leader associated with fast growth at home and expanding influence abroad.
