PM Modi Praises Indian Navy Officers For Completing ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the two Indian Navy officers who completed the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’, covering 50,000 kilometres in a sailboat propelled solely by wind.

Speaking during the 126th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi commended their extraordinary courage and determination, noting that their achievement epitomises the power of women in India’s defence forces and beyond.

Addressing the nation during Navratri, PM Modi said, “From business to sports, education to science, the daughters of our nation are raising their flag high everywhere. Today, they are overcoming challenges that seem unimaginable.”

He linked the officers’ accomplishment to the broader theme of women’s empowerment, emphasising the values of courage, perseverance, and dedication.

Journey of the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’

Lt Commander Dilna, from the Logistics Cadre, and Lt Commander Roopa, from the Naval Armament Inspection Cadre, recounted their journey to PM Modi.

Dilna explained that they set sail from Goa on 2 October 2024 and returned on 29 May 2025, completing the expedition in 238 days.

The officers trained for three years, mastering navigation, communication, emergency procedures, diving, and other maritime skills.

During their voyage, the officers hoisted the Tricolour at Point Nemo, the remotest location on Earth.

Lt Commander Dilna described this as a ‘proud moment’, marking them as the first Indians, first Asians, and first humans to reach the site.

Roopa highlighted that very few people globally have circumnavigated the globe in a sailboat, comparing its rarity to climbing Mount Everest.

Teamwork and Dedication

Both officers credited their success to teamwork and mutual understanding, noting that their boat had only one set of essential equipment, which never failed.

They also drew inspiration from their fathers, who served in the Indian Air Force and Navy, motivating them to join the defence forces.

The Prime Minister lauded the officers, stating, “Dilna and Roopa, listening to your stories gives me a truly thrilling experience. The courage you have shown is remarkable. You have my heartfelt thanks, and certainly, your hard work and achievements will inspire the youth of our country immensely.”

By highlighting the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’ in ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi aims to motivate young Indians, particularly women, to pursue challenges with determination, courage, and teamwork, reflecting the values of resilience, skill, and patriotism.
