On Thursday, the Prime Minister held a telephonic conversation with Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki, reiterating India’s unwavering support for her initiatives to maintain peace and stability in the Himalayan nation.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes to Karki and the people of Nepal ahead of their National Day on Friday.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Had a warm conversation with Mrs. Sushila Karki, Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. Conveyed heartfelt condolences on the recent tragic loss of lives and reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for her efforts to restore peace and stability. Also, I extended warm greetings to her and the people of Nepal on their National Day tomorrow.”

Earlier Congratulations on Assuming Office
Earlier, on 13 September, the Prime Minister congratulated Karki on assuming office as the head of Nepal’s interim government, emphasising India’s commitment to the country’s peace and prosperity.
In a separate post on X, PM Modi posted, “I extend my best wishes to Right Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. India remains firmly committed to the peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Nepal.”

Sushila Karki, aged 73, was sworn in on 12 September, becoming Nepal’s first-ever female Prime Minister.
India had welcomed the formation of Karki’s interim government on 12 September, expressing hope that the political transition would strengthen peace and stability in the country.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated India’s commitment to deepening ties with Kathmandu during this period of change.
“We welcome the formation of a new Interim Government in Nepal, led by Right Honourable Mrs Sushila Karki. We are hopeful that this would help in fostering peace and stability,” the MEA noted.
It added, “As a close neighbour, a fellow democracy and a long-term development partner, India will continue to work closely with Nepal for the well-being and prosperity of our two peoples and countries.”
Karki’s rise follows the collapse of the KP Sharma Oli-led government following violent Gen-Z protests, with activists rallying against Oli’s administration.
