On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone. He assessed the situation in the state after a cloudburst hit Sahastradhara in Dehradun’s Karligaad area.
During the call, CM Dhami briefed the Prime Minister on the ground realities, including ongoing rescue and relief operations.
Assuring full assistance from the Centre, PM Modi stated that “The Union government stands firmly with Uttarakhand in this hour of disaster.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Chief Minister over the phone to review the situation caused by the heavy rainfall.
He promised all possible support from the Home Ministry and stressed that relief and rescue efforts would receive complete backing from the Centre.
The cloudburst, reported late Monday night in Karligaad, a popular tourist destination, caused extensive damage, leaving two people missing.
Heavy debris destroyed two to three major hotels and several shops in the main market.
Other parts of Uttarakhand, including Rishikesh and Haldwani, also faced disruptions due to swollen rivers and debris affecting daily life.
Expressing his gratitude, CM Dhami noted, “With the guidance and cooperation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, relief work will be conducted more rapidly in the state.”
He further added that the administrative machinery remains placed on full alert. Rescue and relief operations are proceeding on a war footing.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister personally inspected the rain-affected areas of Dehradun district.
He was accompanied by local MLAs and senior officials, who provided detailed briefings on the scale of the destruction.
The authorities have mobilised all relevant departments, including SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department. They are deploying JCB machines and other essential equipment to clear debris and carry out relief work.
