Dehradun Cloudburst

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday said he is in continuous touch with authorities following a cloudburst in Karligaad, Dehradun, which caused extensive damage and left two people missing.

The incident, which occurred late Monday night in Sahastradhara, a popular tourist area, resulted in heavy debris falling, damaging two to three major hotels and multiple shops in the main market.

The fast-flowing waters swept away several shops, while search and rescue teams are working to locate the missing individuals.

No large-scale loss of life or property has been confirmed so far.

Taking to X, CM Dhami posted, “Sad news has been received that some shops were damaged due to heavy rainfall late at night in Sahastradhara, Dehradun. The district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the site and are engaged in relief and rescue operations.”

“In this regard, I am in continuous contact with the local administration and personally monitoring the situation. I pray to God for the safety of everyone,” the post added.

Departments Mobilised for Relief

All relevant departments, including SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department, have been mobilised.

Relief operations are underway with the help of JCB machines and other essential equipment.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall caused the Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh to swell, flooding nearby roads.

Three people, Khushpal Singh, Manoj Rawat, and Bobby Panwar, were stranded in the river but were rescued safely by SDRF personnel.

Heavy rains also disrupted traffic in several areas. Near Khara Srot in Muni Ki Reti, debris blocked roads, leaving vehicles stranded. A large tree also fell near the PWD intersection, further affecting movement.

In Haldwani’s Kaladhungi area, a Bolero vehicle was swept away while attempting to cross a rain-fed drain late Monday night, around 11:30 PM.

Of the three occupants, one remains missing, while the other two were rescued by locals. Police, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, launched a search for the missing individual.

Eyewitnesses said the strong current carried the vehicle downstream, and timely intervention by locals prevented further casualties.
