Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the people of Mizoram on Saturday, marking a significant moment in the state’s development journey.
Due to weather conditions, the PM could not attend in person but warmly congratulated Mizoram as the newly inaugurated 51.38-km Bairabi–Sairang railway line officially connected Aizawl to the Indian Railways network.
Ease of Living and Doing Business
PM Modi highlighted his government’s consistent efforts to enhance Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business across the country. He pointed to the recent introduction of next-generation GST reforms, which have reduced taxes on essential items.
“Toothpaste, soap, and oil were once taxed at 27 per cent. Today, families pay just 5 per cent GST,” he said.
The Prime Minister further added that the reduced tax burden has made healthcare, insurance, and even treatment for serious diseases like cancer more affordable.
“Now, even cement and construction materials will become cheaper after 22 September,” he announced.
Cheaper Travel and More Tourism
The Prime Minister stated that GST on hotel stays has been brought down to just 5 per cent.
“Travelling, staying in hotels, and eating out are now more affordable, which will encourage more people to explore the country,” he said.
PM Modi noted that tourism hubs like the Northeast stand to benefit the most from these changes.
He also flagged off three new train services connecting Aizawl to Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore.
India’s economic momentum also featured prominently in PM Modi’s speech.
He announced that India recorded 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter of 2025–26, making it the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
Furthermore, referring to Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister expressed pride in the Indian armed forces for their decisive response to terrorism.
He stressed that ‘Made in India’ defence equipment played a crucial role in the operation, linking national security with the growth of domestic manufacturing.
Commitment to Every Region
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to inclusive development, PM Modi said, “A developed India will be built through the empowerment of every citizen, every family, and every region.”
He expressed confidence that the people of Mizoram would play an important role in this journey.
Moreover, Mizoram Governor General VK Singh (Retd), Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and other dignitaries attended the event.
Despite not being able to attend in person, PM Modi assured the people of Mizoram that they would meet very soon.
