Supreme Court Slams Travesty Of Justice, Orders Action Against Senior Police Officers

The Supreme Court dismissed four appeals filed by Neeraj Kumar. Former police Commissioner and CBI Joint Director, and his subordinate, Vinod Pandey, a former ACP.

These two have been challenging judgments of the Delhi High Court of June 2006, in which the judgment ordered criminal proceedings against them.

The case dates back to 2000, when the officers fabricated documents during an investigation against Ashok Kumar Aggarwal, a former IRS officer.

Officers illegally summoned and detained his younger brother, Vijay Aggarwal; it was clearly a violation of the order of the court.

The court straight away registered two FIRs against officers and initiated criminal contempt proceedings.

Their action amounted to harassment and pressuring Ashok Aggarwal to withdraw the case filed against Neeraj Kumar.

The Supreme Court observed that it was a ‘Travesty of Justice’ that it had remained uninvestigated for 25 years.

The court made it clear that if both officers do not cooperate, then an investigating officer of an ACP rank must arrest them, including custodial interrogation if required.

Moreover, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s finding, opening accountability and warning that police misuse won’t escape justice.
