Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Moves Delhi High Court

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking protection of her personality rights.

She urged the court to ensure that her image, name, voice, photographs, and overall identity are not used without her consent.

A bench led by Justice Tejas Karia is currently hearing the petition. In her plea, Aishwarya asserted that various online platforms and social media outlets are misusing her popularity by circulating misleading, fake, and objectionable content, which could harm her reputation.

The petition further claimed that several websites and companies have been using her name and pictures without authorisation, thereby invading her privacy and misleading the public.

Legal Precedent: Aaradhya Bachchan’s Case

This is not the first time the Bachchan family has turned to the Delhi High Court for relief. In April 2023, the court issued directions on a petition filed on behalf of Aaradhya Bachchan, daughter of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, and granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan.

At that time, the court ordered the removal of misleading YouTube videos that falsely claimed Aaradhya was gravely ill or deceased.

The court also directed Google and YouTube to provide details of the individuals who uploaded such videos and to ensure strict compliance with the IT Rules, 2021.

During the 2023 proceedings, the Delhi High Court observed that every child—celebrity or not—has the right to dignity, particularly concerning misinformation about their physical and mental health.

The court criticised YouTube for lacking a clear policy on such harmful content and emphasised its responsibility to take prompt action against fake and defamatory material.

Before Aishwarya’s move, several prominent personalities, including Aaradhya Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rajinikanth, and Virat Kohli, had also sought judicial intervention to safeguard their personal and personality rights.
