Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the newly redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple at Udaipur on September 22, according to state officials.

Hindus venerate the 524-year-old shrine as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and regard it as a cultural and spiritual landmark in southern Tripura.

A senior state official said that the authorities have not yet finalised the Prime Minister’s itinerary, but they are preparing for the proposed date.

Director General of Police Anurag and senior officers reviewed security and logistical arrangements in Gomati district on Saturday.

Chief Minister Manik Saha and cabinet colleagues will shortly visit to inspect the arrangements.

Redevelopment Under PRASHAD Scheme

The Union Tourism Ministry has revitalised the Tripura Sundari temple under its PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) programme at a cost exceeding ₹52 crore, while the state government has added another ₹7 crore to the project.

The project aims to preserve the shrine’s heritage while improving facilities for pilgrims and tourists.

Originally built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the temple ranks among the most important Shakti Peethas in eastern India, alongside Kolkata’s Kalighat and Guwahati’s Kamakhya temples.

Officials highlighted that the Union Tourism Ministry has also sanctioned nearly ₹98 crore to develop a ’51 Shakti Peethas Park’ at Banduar, only four kilometres from the temple.

This park, where the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone in July, will feature replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas from across the subcontinent, offering visitors an immersive religious tourism experience.

Amenities planned for the park include landscaped gardens, guest facilities, a food court, souvenir outlets, museums on mythology, improved roads and parking, drinking water points, and public conveniences, all intended to showcase the region’s spiritual heritage while enhancing visitor comfort.
