Rigorous Selection Reflects Excellence
The 45 awardees, comprising 24 men and 21 women, were selected through a rigorous three-stage process.
They represent schools from metropolitan areas, towns, and remote villages, demonstrating excellence across diverse educational settings.
President Murmu stressed that the primary duty of a teacher extends beyond academics to building students’ character.
Reflecting on her own experience as a teacher, she called it one of the most meaningful phases of her life.
“Sensitive, responsible and dedicated students who follow moral conduct are better than those interested only in competition or bookish knowledge,” she remarked. “A good teacher blends both emotion and intellect.”
The President placed particular importance on investing in girls’ education, calling it an invaluable investment in family, society, and the nation.
She stated that empowering girls through education is one of the most effective ways to promote women-led development.
The Importance of Smart Teachers
While modern facilities like smart classrooms and digital tools are vital, President Murmu underscored that the most important asset is ‘smart teachers’.
These teachers moreover understand their students’ developmental needs and make learning engaging through affection and sensitivity, enabling students to meet societal and national needs effectively.
President Murmu also spoke on the significance of the National Education Policy, which aims to position India as a Global Knowledge Superpower.
She called for teachers to be recognised as the best in the world and urged educational institutions and teachers to contribute actively across school, higher, and skill education sectors.
