PM Modi: Middle Class At The Heart Of India’s Growth Story

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described India’s middle class as the driving force of the country’s development, saying that recent GST 2.0 reforms will ease their financial burden while giving a major push to domestic manufacturing and enterprise.

Sharing a post by Dixon Technologies Chairman Sunil Vachani, the Prime Minister emphasised the impact of tax rationalisation on making appliances such as televisions and air conditioners more affordable for millions of households.

India’s hardworking middle class is at the heart of our growth journey. Through historic income tax cuts and now #NextGenGST reforms that make products like TVs, ACs and everyday essentials more affordable, we are committed to enhancing ease of living and supporting the aspirations of crores of families,” PM Modi said on X.

Boost for Manufacturing and MSMEs

PM Modi also hailed the reforms as a ‘game-changer’ for the manufacturing sector.

He said that simplified GST slabs of 5% and 18%, along with reduced input costs and streamlined digital compliance, would strengthen the demand for ‘Made in India’ products and improve competitiveness.

Highlighting the role of small businesses in employment and economic growth, the Prime Minister said that the reforms are part of a continuous effort to empower MSMEs.

He added that every reform has aimed to strengthen small and medium businesses, from easier credit to wider market access, and the latest GST changes continue this momentum.

Linking tax reform to social welfare, PM Modi noted that GST cuts on life and health insurance premiums will contribute to the broader vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.

He called this a crucial step towards building a ‘Swasth and Samarth Bharat’ (Healthy and Capable India).

The industry has welcomed the GST overhaul.

Dixon Technologies Chairman Sunil Vachani congratulated the government, the GST Council, and industry associations for implementing reforms that will not only boost ease of doing business but also advance India’s manufacturing ambitions.

With GST 2.0, the government has sought to simplify tax rates, encourage domestic production, and reduce the burden on consumers—all while ensuring fiscal discipline and inclusive growth.

These changes reflect a long-term roadmap to make India a more efficient and resilient economy in the decades ahead.
