Amit Shah Chairs High-Level Meeting In Jammu; Launches Flood Relief Mission In Four States

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening to lead the Central Government’s response to severe flooding and landslides that have impacted Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand in recent weeks.

As part of the visit, Shah announced the constitution of Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess the damages and expedite relief efforts in coordination with the state and union territory governments.

High-Level Engagement in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, senior BJP leaders, and top civil and police officials received Home Minister Shah at Jammu Airport at 9:35 PM.

His visit signals the Centre’s strong commitment to post-disaster recovery in the affected regions.

The Home Minister will chair a high-level meeting on Monday morning at Raj Bhawan to review the extent of destruction to civilian property and public infrastructure caused by cloudbursts, floods, and landslides.

He will also conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas, including Katra and Kishtwar, which have suffered significant damage.

These areas have seen loss of life, damage to public infrastructure, and disruption of pilgrimage activities.

The survey aims to provide a clearer picture of the devastation, enabling a swift central response.

Officials noted that Shah would also inspect damage to fencing and other infrastructure along the international border with Pakistan, where floodwaters disrupted normal operations.

Before reaching Jammu, Shah had already announced the deployment of IMCTs to all four affected states/UTs.

These teams will further carry out on-the-spot assessments and evaluate the relief work being carried out by local administrations.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Centre stands firmly with the flood-hit regions.

Centre Provides Rescue and Relief Support

The MHA confirmed that the Central Government has mobilised resources, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army units, and Indian Air Force helicopters for search and rescue operations.

These agencies are working in tandem with state authorities to restore essential services.

In a show of solidarity, Amit Shah will meet affected families and visit localities in Jammu that bore the brunt of the recent natural calamities.

These measures form part of a broader effort by the Centre to ensure that the affected regions receive the assistance required for swift recovery and rebuilding.
