The Adani Defence and Aerospace plant in Kanpur, described as an example of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat in action’, is manufacturing a wide range of military hardware, from ammunition to fighter aircraft.

The company plans to almost double its output of bullets in the coming months, according to Chief Executive Officer Ashish Rajvanshi, who briefed journalists through a virtual interaction.

Rajvanshi observed that the nature of warfare has changed in recent years, with conflicts rarely involving troops crossing borders or fighter jets entering enemy skies.

Instead, he noted, modern battlefields now rely on information systems, artificial intelligence, and drones.

Rajvanshi stated that information systems, machine learning, and artificial intelligence now define modern warfare, with drones playing a central role. He further added that in the future, drones are expected to surpass fighter jets in use, while robots are being developed to make independent decisions on the battlefield.

Highlighting the company’s strategy to prepare India for emerging defence challenges, Rajvanshi said Adani Defence will invest Rs 7,000 crore over the next few years.

The Kanpur unit will also start missile production, supported by a $1 million investment.

He added that larger-calibre bullets will soon manufactured, alongside advanced defence equipment such as bulletproof jackets, drones, helicopters, fighter planes, and missiles, further boosting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Rajvanshi stressed that the defence sector holds critical importance for India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

He pointed out that while defence projects previously faced hurdles in accessing bank loans, the government is now preparing to open a credit line for the industry.

Adani Defence and Aerospace, a leading player in India’s defence sector, aims to transform the country into a world-class hub for aerospace and military manufacturing.
