Union Home Minister Amit Shah will spend Sunday in Ahmedabad, where he will inaugurate multiple civic projects spearheaded by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

His visit will begin at the historic Bhadrakali Mata Temple at Lal Darwaza, where he will offer prayers before commencing a packed schedule of inaugurations and environmental drives.

Shah will inaugurate two new Urban Health Centres (UHCs), marking a step towards strengthening healthcare services in the city.

Authorities have established the first facility near Ognaj village in Gota ward, while they have located the second near Osia Hyper Mart in Chandlodia ward.

AMC officials emphasise that these centres are part of an ongoing effort to expand medical access at the grassroots level, addressing the needs of fast-growing neighbourhoods.

Environmental initiatives under Mission for Million Trees

AMC launched its flagship ‘Mission for Million Trees’ campaign on World Environment Day to plant 40 lakh trees across Ahmedabad, and the Home Minister will also take part in it.

The campaign aims to improve air quality, increase urban green cover, and encourage public participation in conservation, and city officials describe it as one of Ahmedabad’s most ambitious environmental projects.

Shah is scheduled to plant saplings at Ahvadia Lake in the Sabarmati area, in the Stadium Ward, and near the Chanakya Puri bridge in Ghatlodia.

Another key feature of the day’s programme is the inauguration of the redeveloped Sardar Bagh Garden in Jamalpur ward.

Restored at a cost of ₹12 crore under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the support of the UNM Foundation, the revamped garden now offers improved recreational spaces and enhanced greenery for residents.

AMC Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani noted that Shah’s visit will reinforce the city’s developmental vision by combining healthcare improvements with ecological sustainability.

“These projects will provide vital services while promoting a greener and healthier Ahmedabad,” he said.

The new facilities and initiatives align with AMC’s wider strategy to enhance urban infrastructure, improve living standards, and foster long-term environmental resilience in one of Gujarat’s fastest-growing cities.
