Schools in 19 districts of Rajasthan remained closed on Monday as authorities issued a heavy rain alert.
Continuous downpours over the past two days have significantly disrupted normal life, prompting the government to take precautionary measures.
The Meteorological Department warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in 16 districts, leading officials to declare holidays in government and private schools as well as Anganwadi centres. Teachers and staff are, however, required to attend work as usual.
Schools in Sikar, Karauli, Kota, Khairthal-Tijara, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kotputli-Baharod, Sirohi, Bundi, Bhilwara, Udaipur, and Sawai Madhopur were closed on Monday. Other districts announced extended closures depending on local weather conditions.
Tonk schools will remain closed from Monday to Wednesday, while Alwar, Jaipur, Dausa, Nagaur, and Didwana-Kuchaman will observe holidays on Monday and Tuesday.
Weather Alerts and Advisories
The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Udaipur, Rajsamand, and Sirohi, where very heavy rainfall is expected.
A yellow alert covers Alwar, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Jhunjhunu, Pratapgarh, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, and Sri Ganganagar.
Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety instructions. Low-lying areas are at risk of waterlogging, and rural connectivity may be disrupted in several regions.
District administrations are closely monitoring the situation, with disaster management teams on standby to respond to emergencies. Residents have been urged to cooperate with local authorities and adhere to safety guidelines until the weather improves.
Officials emphasised the importance of caution, particularly in flood-prone areas, as widespread rainfall continues to affect daily life and transport networks across the state.
