Speaker Vijender Gupta announced on Friday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the All India Speakers’ Conference at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on August 24.
The two-day event will honour Vitthalbhai Patel, India’s first Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly, and explore critical themes, including the role of pre-Independence leaders in the freedom movement and the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on governance.
Speaker Gupta said the event has drawn interest from nearly all Indian states, reflecting broad consensus across party lines.
“This is a very important programme, and everyone is supporting it, transcending party lines and politics,” Gupta stated.
In addition to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the conference will feature an address by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, among other senior national figures.
The organisers also expect Deputy Chairpersons, Cabinet Ministers, and Speakers from across the country to attend the event.
Tribute to a Democratic Pioneer
The conference will pay tribute to Vitthalbhai Patel through a special exhibition, panel discussions, and the screening of a documentary highlighting his contributions to constitutional development and India’s parliamentary traditions.
Gupta added that the Delhi Legislative Assembly stands as the first Parliament in the country. It was from here that revolutionaries and national leaders raised the call for freedom, which then spread across India.
The conference’s thematic sessions will cover:
- The role of the Central Legislative Assembly’s pre-Independence leaders in social reform and India’s freedom struggle.
- Artificial Intelligence and its implications for transparency, accountability, and public trust in governments.
- India’s legacy as the Mother of Democracy and its influence on modern governance models.
Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht expressed optimism that the conference would offer valuable insights to all participants.
“Speakers from across India will carry home significant lessons from this historic platform,” he remarked.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Delhi Police and fire department officials, has thoroughly reviewed the security preparations for the dignitaries.
The event aims to reflect on India’s democratic past. It also seeks to promote a forward-looking dialogue on the future of legislative governance in the age of technology.
