Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday strongly defended the three new bills aimed at tightening rules against corruption. He stated that they would apply equally to the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers.

Addressing a public rally at Gaya ji in Bihar, he criticised the Opposition for resisting the proposed changes.
Prime Minister Modi said the Opposition’s fear was clear, as the bills leave no room for special treatment of those in power.
“The bills also include the Chief Ministers and Ministers. After the enactment of this law, if any Chief Minister, Minister, or Prime Minister is arrested, they will have to secure bail within 30 days, and if bail is not granted, they will have to resign on the 31st day,” PM Modi stated.
He contrasted this with the current system. In it, junior officials face automatic suspension after just 50 hours of detention. Meanwhile, senior leaders often continue exercising authority even from jail.
“We have recently seen how files were being signed from jail, and government orders were being issued from jail itself. If this remains the attitude of leaders, how can the fight against corruption be fought?” he asked, in a veiled reference to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
PM Modi underlined that in ten years of NDA rule, no corruption allegations have surfaced against his government. This contrasts with Congress administrations that governed for decades.
“The corruption of the RJD is known to every child in Bihar. I firmly believe that if the fight against corruption is to be taken to its conclusion, no one should be exempt from action,” he added.
Hitting out at the Mahagathbandhan, PM Modi accused Congress and RJD of treating public money as their personal wealth.
“This is precisely why, under their governments, projects would remain incomplete for years. The longer a project was delayed, the more money they would siphon off from it,” he noted.
