Sector-39 Police Foil RRU Theft Gang After Armed Confrontation In Noida

Sector-39 Police have dismantled a cross-district telecom theft gang after an armed confrontation near the Bakhtavarpur underpass, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of stolen telecom equipment worth lakhs.

At approximately midnight on August 9, officers from Sector-39 Police were conducting routine checks when they noticed two suspicious cars approaching.

On spotting the police presence, the drivers abruptly veered onto the service road in an attempt to escape.

A high-speed pursuit ensued. One of the vehicles, a Hyundai Aura without a registration plate, lost control and crashed into a tree near the service road’s foot-over bridge.

As police closed in, the suspects opened fire with the intent to kill.

The officers returned fire in self-defence, injuring two suspects, Abid, son of Fateh Mohammad, and Farukh, son of Farakat, both hailing from Bazheda Kala, Hapur, and currently residing in Ghaziabad’s Tronica City. Police found each suspect in possession of a country-made pistol and a spent cartridge.

Arrest of Accomplices

A subsequent combing operation led to the capture of six other members of the gang: Faizan, Ayaan, Mumtaz, Istkhar, Mohammad Moin, and Mohammad Kaif, all residents of districts outside Noida but temporarily based in Ghaziabad.

Police recovered two Hyundai Aura cars, four Remote Radio Units (RRUs), two telecom tower cable bundles, and burglary tools, including cutters and saws.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing one RRU from a telecom tower near Sector-100’s Century Apartments in Noida, and three others from sites in Delhi, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad.

Authorities confirmed that all the arrested individuals have prior criminal backgrounds, which are now under verification.

The injured men were transported to the hospital and remain under police guard. Officials stated that further legal action is in progress, with efforts underway to link the gang to similar unsolved telecom theft cases across the NCR region.

Police sources said the swift interception and decisive action prevented the gang from selling the stolen high-value telecom equipment on the black market.

Sector-39 SHO praised the team’s quick response, noting that such crimes can severely disrupt mobile network operations in affected areas.
