PM Modi Flags Off Three Vande Bharat Trains & Inaugurates Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains from the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway Station in Bengaluru, marking another milestone in India’s rail modernisation drive.

The new services include the Bengaluru–Belagavi train in Karnataka, the Amritsar–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra service in Jammu and Kashmir, and the Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune route in Maharashtra.

The introduction of these semi-high-speed trains reflects the central government’s commitment to transforming Indian Railways into a world-class network, offering passengers faster, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly travel options.

Following the railway event, PM Modi inaugurated the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro and personally undertook a ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Electronic City station.

This 19 km corridor, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, forms part of Metro Phase-2 and features 16 stations.

Developed at an estimated cost of ₹7,160 crore, the Yellow Line is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, especially those working in the bustling Electronics City tech hub.

With the addition of this corridor, Bengaluru’s operational metro network now exceeds 96 km, serving a significantly larger section of the city’s population.

The new service will ease road congestion, reduce travel times, and provide a safer and more efficient mode of public transport.

Foundation Stone for Metro Phase-3

In a major boost to the city’s infrastructure, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 project.

Valued at over ₹15,610 crore, the project will add more than 44 km of track and 31 elevated stations to the network. Designed to cater to residential, industrial, commercial, and educational areas, this expansion aims to meet the city’s growing transportation needs in the coming decades.

PM Modi arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday morning to a warm reception from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior officials.

The visit drew widespread public enthusiasm, with BJP leaders hailing the projects as transformative for the state’s capital.

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra described the Yellow Line inauguration as a ‘dream come true’ for residents.

He said, “More than eight lakh people in Bengaluru’s southern districts will benefit from this new metro line. It is not only the people of Bengaluru but the entire state who eagerly await this day. The Prime Minister’s leadership has made it possible.”

The Vande Bharat trains and the Yellow Line Metro are set to deliver long-term socio-economic benefits. While the trains will enhance intercity connectivity across three states, the metro expansion will improve urban mobility within Bengaluru, making it easier for workers, students, and tourists to move across the city efficiently.

The day’s events underline the government’s twin focus on infrastructure and connectivity, positioning Bengaluru as a model for integrated urban and regional transport development.
