Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a phone conversation with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to assess the situation in Dharali, Uttarkashi, where twin cloudbursts have caused large-scale devastation, sweeping away an entire village and leaving several people missing.
During the call, the Prime Minister also reviewed the status of relief and rescue operations currently underway in the affected region.
Chief Minister Dhami informed PM Modi that the state government is actively managing the crisis and that all relevant departments are working together to deliver immediate aid to those impacted.
He acknowledged that access to some areas remains difficult due to continuous rainfall but confirmed that rescue teams are working around the clock.
Taking to X, CM Dhami posted, “Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi took information about the ongoing relief and rescue operations in Dharali over the phone this morning. During this, he was informed about the rescue operations conducted throughout the night, the rescue of people from the incident site to safe locations, and the availability of essential services and resources.”
He expressed gratitude for the Centre’s swift response, adding, “Heartfelt gratitude to Honourable Prime Minister for providing every possible assistance! I am in constant contact with the team, engaging in the rescue operation. I am also heading to Dharali myself to inspect the incident site.”

Central Government Support Assured
Prime Minister Modi, in turn, assured full support from the central government to help the state navigate the ongoing crisis.
This marks the second time PM Modi has spoken to CM Dhami since Tuesday, when the cloudbursts first struck.
In his initial response, the Prime Minister had expressed deep concern over the situation, including damage reported at an Army camp and the disappearance of several soldiers.
The dual cloudbursts have resulted in widespread damage to infrastructure and left many unaccounted for.
Rescue operations are continuing under challenging weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a red alert for Uttarakhand, forecasting heavy rainfall across several districts. These include Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, and Pauri Garhwal.
The IMD also warned of possible thunderstorms with lightning and intense to very intense rainfall in isolated areas across the state.
