After the Election Commission announced the schedule for the Vice Presidential elections, speculation has intensified that the BJP President elections may be held only after the V-P poll concludes.

A senior BJP leader said the process of electing a new national president is already in its final stage.

“We are at the last phase. Internal elections have been completed in 26 states and Union Territories. In states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, the process is nearing completion,” the leader said, as reported by IANS.

When asked if the Vice Presidential poll would delay the party’s own presidential election, he responded cautiously. He said he could not confirm the schedule but stressed that most groundwork was done.

Another senior BJP leader said the new state presidents for Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat are likely to be chosen by August 12. This date marks the end of the Monsoon session of Parliament.

However, he added, “If it doesn’t happen by then, it may take a couple of weeks more to wrap up the remaining state-level elections.”

Nadda’s Extended Term Highlights Internal Delays

The tenure of the current BJP President JP Nadda ended in 2024 after the Lok Sabha elections. But the election for his successor has stalled.

Delays have been caused by incomplete state elections and the need for RSS approval. Efforts to ensure caste balance and other unspecified issues have also contributed.

These complexities have led to a temporary stalemate. However, party leaders remain confident that the BJP President elections will conclude soon after the Vice Presidential poll.
