PM Narendra Modi, in a fiery speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, accused the Congress party of aligning its political narrative with that of Pakistan and undermining the morale of the Indian Armed Forces.
His remarks came during a heated debate over Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory military strike following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
PM Modi: Congress Run by Pakistan’s Remote Control
PM Modi alleged that the Congress party’s rhetoric mirrored Pakistan’s and claimed, “Congress’s trust is being run by Pakistan’s remote control.”
He criticised Congress leaders who allegedly labelled the military operation a ‘farce’.
The Prime Minister accused Congress of consistently showing ‘negativity’ toward the military.
He highlighted that Congress has never officially acknowledged Kargil Vijay Diwas, which commemorates India’s victory in the 1999 conflict.
He also questioned the party’s conduct during the Doklam standoff, suggesting that some Congress leaders received briefings from foreign sources.
Statements Mirror Pakistan, Says PM
Drawing comparisons between Congress and Pakistan’s rhetoric, PM Modi remarked, “Compare their statements with those from Pakistan — you’ll find the same punctuation.”
He slammed Congress for demanding proof that the Pahalgam attackers were Pakistani nationals. “Even when evidence is abundant, they ask for proof. What would they have done if there were none?” he asked.
Defending Operation Sindoor, PM Modi revealed that Pakistan launched nearly 1,000 missiles during the conflict.
“Had those missiles landed, the destruction would have been unimaginable. But our air defence system intercepted them mid-air,” he said, praising India’s technological advancement in warfare.
PM Modi accused Congress of spreading false information about the Adampur airbase, claiming, “It was as if they were waiting for me to fail. I went to Adampur the very next day and exposed their lies.”
He lauded the Indian air defence system for neutralising Pakistani drones and missiles “like straws.”
Recalling the Balakot airstrikes, PM Modi noted that Congress had similarly demanded photographic evidence back then.
“Pakistan said the same thing — show us the photos, count the bodies,” PM stated.
Abhinandan’s Return and Opposition’s Doubts
PM Modi revisited the events of 2019, when Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman returned after being captured by Pakistan.
“They whispered that Modi was trapped. But Abhinandan returned with honour and pride,” PM said.
He also mentioned the recent capture of a BSF soldier after the Pahalgam operation, noting that the soldier returned safely, ‘with dignity’.
