RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday urged India to become a strong and economically self-reliant nation. He said the world respects only power and Bharat must reflect that strength.
He made these remarks while addressing the ‘Gyan Sabha’, a national education conference hosted by Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, a body affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Bhagwat stated that India must move beyond its historical image as a ‘golden bird’ and evolve into a ‘lion’.
“The world understands power. Therefore, Bharat must become strong. It must also grow rich in economic terms,” he said, stressing that strength and prosperity are essential to India’s position in global affairs.
Speaking on national identity, Bhagwat insisted that ‘Bharat’ is a proper noun and should not be translated.
“India is Bharat — that’s true. But Bharat is Bharat. In every context — whether personal or public, while speaking or writing — we should say Bharat,” he said.
He warned that if the nation loses its identity, no matter how talented or advanced, it will fail to earn respect.
“That’s the fundamental rule,” he added.
True Education Promotes Selflessness
On education, Bhagwat said real learning helps individuals become independent and work for society’s betterment.
“Education that teaches selfishness is not real education,” he asserted.
He added that education starts at home and in society, not just in schools.
“The environment in which children grow up plays a crucial role,” he noted. “Society must think about what atmosphere helps raise confident, responsible youth.”
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, several senior academicians, and vice-chancellors attended the event.
Key speakers included Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas President Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary Dr Atul Kothari, Coordinator A Vinod, and Cochin Shipyard Chairman Madhu Nair.
The conference focused on reforming India’s education system in line with cultural values and preparing the youth for future challenges.
