The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has confirmed that a video circulating on social media, which falsely claims India lost its S-400 air defence system to Chinese missiles, is digitally altered.
The video wrongly attributes this statement to the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indian Army, Lt General Rahul R Singh.
No Mention of S-400 Loss
The viral video shows Lt Gen Singh allegedly acknowledging the loss during a public address.
However, the PIB Fact Check has verified that the original footage has been tampered with.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) recorded the clip during the conference it organised on 4th July 2025.
During his speech at the event, Lt General Singh made no such statement regarding the S-400 or any Chinese missile attack.

Misinformation & Public Awareness
The Ministry of Defence and PIB continue to stress the importance of verifying information from official sources before sharing.
Instances like these highlight how manipulated media can mislead the public and damage institutional credibility.
Officials have urged citizens and media platforms to remain vigilant and to refrain from sharing unverified content.
They recommend cross-checking all sensational or politically sensitive claims. Use reliable sources like PIB, official government handles, or trusted news organisations.
The government has increased efforts to counter online misinformation. This comes amid advancing technology enabling deepfakes and edited videos to spread false narratives.
The PIB Fact Check initiative is part of a broader push to promote digital literacy and responsible information sharing among citizens.
This recent incident underscores the need for caution and critical thinking in the digital age. The altered video falsely implicating Lt General Rahul R Singh not only spreads misinformation but also undermines trust in public institutions.
The PIB Fact Check has firmly dismissed the claim and confirmed that no one ever made such a statement about the S-400 air defence system.
