In a major crackdown on wildlife trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur Unit, under the Mumbai Zonal Unit, conducted a joint operation with officials from the South Seoni Forest Division in Madhya Pradesh.
The operation led to the seizure of the decomposed carcass of a tiger cub, along with nine nails and sixty-one bones, from a forested area near Sarekha Khurd village in Seoni district.
DRI acts on specific intelligence
The officials launched the operation after receiving specific intelligence that a group had killed a tiger cub and buried its carcass in the forest.
DRI and forest officials swiftly intercepted six people trying to sell tiger parts.
Six suspects arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act
Authorities arrested all six suspects and seized the tiger parts. They handed the individuals and the wildlife articles over to the Forest Department, Range Barghat, Seoni. The further legal action will take place under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
The tiger, listed under Schedule I, receives the highest protection, and trading its parts—nails, bones, or skin—is strictly banned.

This operation highlights the DRI’s ongoing efforts to dismantle wildlife trafficking networks using sustained and intelligence-driven enforcement.
In a statement, the agency reaffirmed its dedication to upholding wildlife protection laws and preserving India’s ecological heritage.
Tigers, one of India’s most iconic and endangered species, continue to face threats from poaching and illegal trade.
This latest seizure underscores the urgent need for collaborative vigilance and strict enforcement of wildlife laws across the country.
