Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged with senior Mauritian officials in Port Louis on July 2, in a bid to strengthen the vibrant and people-centric relationship between India and Mauritius.
Chief among those he met was Pravind Jugnauth, former Prime Minister and leader of the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM) Party, where they explored avenues to further bolster bilateral cooperation.
Taking to X, the High Commission of India in Mauritius posted, “Foreign Secretary, @VikramMisri met Shri Pravind Jugnauth, former Prime Minister and Leader of Mouvement Socialiste Militant Party. Responding on X, Jugnauth posted, “Had a very good meeting with Foreign Secretary V. Misri. An opportunity to share our views on matters of mutual interest which will allow the Indo Mauritian relationship to continue to flourish.”

Misri also paid a courtesy call on President Dharambeer Gokhool, during which they reviewed potential collaborations in health, education, traditional medicine, and community development.
Earlier on Tuesday, Misri met Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
Together, they reaffirmed the special bilateral relationship and agreed on the need to elevate their strategic partnership to align with the new government’s evolving priorities.
Vision MAHASAGAR & strategic cooperation
The discussions covered Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Region), a framework aimed at deepening regional cooperation.
Misri emphasised India’s commitment to expanding its developmental partnership with Mauritius and preparing for PM Ramgoolam’s scheduled visit to India.
Deputy Prime Minister Paul Raymond Bérenger also met with Misri, reiterating his support for further strengthening the enduring bonds of friendship between the two nations.
The Foreign Secretary subsequently met Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.
Their talks focused on advancing activities under the India–Mauritius Joint Vision for an Enhanced Strategic Partnership and identifying mutual areas of interest.
Visit reflects India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ and Global South priorities
Misri’s visit commenced on Tuesday, emphasising India’s deep-rooted cultural, civilizational, and people-to-people links with Mauritius.
The High Commission of India in Mauritius underscored that the visit showcased India’s regular high-level engagement with Mauritius and underlined Mauritius’s importance within India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’, Vision Sagar, MAHASAGAR, Africa Forward policies, and broader Global South commitment.
Through this high-level engagement, both nations reaffirm their shared vision for strategic collaboration, cultural affinity, and sustainable development, signalling a renewed drive to enhance the India–Mauritius partnership across multiple sectors.
