Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday called on US President Donald Trump to abandon what he called a ‘disrespectful and unacceptable’ way of referring to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying an insulting approach would doom any fresh negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi demands mutual respect
Posting on X, Araghchi said Washington must ‘put aside the disrespectful tone’ if it genuinely wants a new agreement with Tehran.
Taking to X, he posted, “If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting his millions of heartfelt followers.”

‘Threats and insults won’t work’
The foreign minister warned that the Iranian public does not respond well to bluster.
Referring to last week’s Iranian missile barrage against Israel, he said, “The Great and Powerful Iranian People, who showed the world that the Israeli regime had NO CHOICE but to RUN to “Daddy” to avoid being flattened by our Missiles, do not take kindly to Threats and Insults. If Illusions lead to worse mistakes, Iran will not hesitate to unveil its Real Capabilities, which will certainly END any Delusion about the Power of Iran.”

President Trump claims he ‘saved’ Khamenei
Araghchi’s comments followed a long Truth Social post in which Trump said he had spared Khamenei ‘a very ugly and ignominious death’ during Israel’s recent war with Iran.
President Trump asserted that US and Israeli forces obliterated three Iranian nuclear sites and that he ordered Israeli aircraft to abort a massive strike on Tehran.
US President added that he had been considering sanctions relief for Iran ‘to give it a full, fast, and complete recovery’, but halted the effort after Khamenei issued what President Trump called ‘a statement of anger, hatred, and disgust’.
Cease‑fire backdrop
Trump earlier this week announced a cease‑fire between Iran and Israel after 12 days of escalating attacks.
He urged both governments to show restraint as indirect talks over sanctions and regional security stalled yet again.
Araghchi’s response suggests Tehran will insist on a change in tone, alongside relief from US sanctions, before serious diplomacy can resume.
