UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the much-awaited Gorakhpur Link Expressway on June 20.
On the same day, he will also flag off a specially equipped safety fleet designed to ensure commuter safety on the newly built 91-km stretch.
UP govt deploys safety fleet along expressway
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has developed the safety fleet, which includes five Innovas, five Campers, four ambulances, two cranes, and one hydra vehicle.
Authorities will station these vehicles at strategic intervals to provide emergency support and enhance road safety.
Rajesh Pandey, UPEIDA’s nodal security officer, said that the Innovas will patrol the expressway round-the-clock in three 8-hour shifts.
Each vehicle will be staffed by four ex-servicemen to ensure rapid response and discipline in operations.
UP Expressways Authority equips camper vehicles for emergency response
Each camper vehicle, open at the rear, will carry traffic cones, ropes, and radium strips.
In the event of accidents or breakdowns, these vehicles will be deployed to secure the site and maintain smooth traffic flow.
Ambulances will be stationed every 45 km on both sides of the expressway to enable quick medical assistance. Cranes and a hydra vehicle will also be available to handle vehicular breakdowns.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has mandated that authorities must promptly remove any disabled vehicle from the expressway.
Authorities are also implementing an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), similar to the one on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway.
The system will feature CCTV cameras every 5 km, monitored from a central control room.
Enhanced surveillance & road safety measures
Officials said the new system will significantly improve traffic surveillance and enforcement along the route.
UPEIDA aims to ensure a safer travel experience for commuters, with continuous monitoring and rapid-response infrastructure in place.
With the launch of the expressway and implementation of state-of-the-art safety protocols, authorities have positioned the Gorakhpur Link Expressway to serve as a model for highway development and commuter safety in India.
