Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a two-day visit to Gujarat on May 26, 2025, aimed at inaugurating and laying the foundation for development projects valued at over ₹77,000 crore.

The visit further underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and promoting urban development in the state.

On the first day of his visit, PM Modi dedicated to the nation a state-of-the-art electric locomotive manufacturing plant.

The facility is set to produce 9,000 HP electric locomotives for domestic use and export, bolstering India’s railway capabilities.

The Prime Minister also flagged off the first electric locomotive manufactured at the plant, which aims to increase freight loading capacity and reduce energy consumption, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Launch Of Development Projects In Dahod And Bhuj, Gujarat

PM Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth approximately ₹24,000 crore in Dahod.

Later, he visited Bhuj, where he launched projects exceeding ₹53,400 crore.

These initiatives include transmission projects for evacuating renewable power from the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, expansion of the transmission network, and the establishment of an ultra-supercritical thermal power plant unit at Tapi.

Railway Infrastructure Enhancements In Gujarat

The Prime Minister flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad, aiming to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time.

Additionally, he inaugurated the gauge-converted Katosan-Kalol section and flagged off a freight train on the newly converted track, further strengthening the region’s railway infrastructure.

Celebration Of 20 Years Of Urban Development

On May 27, PM Modi participated in the celebrations marking 20 years of Gujarat’s Urban Growth Story.

He launched the Urban Development Year 2025 and the State Clean Air Programme in Gandhinagar.

The Urban Development Year 2005, further initiated by then-Chief Minister Modi, had transformed Gujarat’s urban landscape through planned infrastructure and improved quality of life.

Building on this success, the Urban Development Year 2025 aims to continue this trajectory of growth and development.

Housing And Infrastructure Initiatives

During the visit, PM Modi dedicated over 22,000 dwelling units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and released ₹3,300 crore for urban local bodies in Gujarat under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana.

These initiatives are part of the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing and enhance urban infrastructure across the state.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Gujarat highlights the government’s focus on infrastructure development, renewable energy, and urban transformation.

The projects further inaugurated and launched during this visit are expected to drive economic growth, improve connectivity, and enhance the quality of life for residents in Gujarat.
