
Congress leader and General Secretary in charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh, announced that Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will visit Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday to meet families affected by recent shelling from Pakistan.
Taking to X, Ramesh posted, “Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri @RahulGandhi will be visiting Poonch tomorrow May 24th to meet the families bereaved during the shelling by Pakistan very recently.”
“Earlier he had visited Srinagar on April 25th to meet with those injured during the brutal Pahalgam terror attack and many other stakeholders. He had also met with the LG and the CM then,” the post added.

LG Sinha Visits Victims; Promises Support
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also visited victims in Poonch and Rajouri, emphasising that rehabilitating the affected families is a top priority.
An official Raj Bhavan statement said the closest relatives of the victims will offered government jobs, and the Central government will provide further assistance.
“The proper rehabilitation of affected families is my top priority. The J&K administration, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, is committed to ensuring proper rehabilitation, enhanced border infrastructure, and security for the residents of border areas. We are significantly expanding our efforts to construct individual and community bunkers across Jammu and Kashmir under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE),” stated the Lieutenant Governor.
Besides Poonch, Rajouri has also faced shelling, leading to damage to homes and loss of livelihoods.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has declared an ex gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha has held several meetings with civil officials, police, and locals to evaluate the situation and mentioned that a rehabilitation package for the victims is awaiting Central government approval.
