The utility has equipped its frontline engineers, dubbed ‘Power Warriors’, with state-of-the-art smartphone-enabled infrared (IR) thermal imaging tools, ushering in a new era of predictive maintenance and smarter grid management.
These compact IR devices enable field teams to detect early signs of stress or overheating in vital power assets such as transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels.
Often, these indicators are invisible to the naked eye and only detectable through thermal imaging.
“Our field teams can now identify and address developing issues during their first site visit – preventing power interruptions before they happen,” said a spokesperson from Adani Electricity.
The tools allow instant analysis of power equipment, reducing the need for follow-up inspections and enabling faster resolution of service issues.
This ensures greater stability in power supply, especially during peak demand periods.
Shifting From Reactive To Predictive Maintenance
The deployment of these mobile thermal devices marks a shift from traditional reactive maintenance to a proactive, data-driven approach.
Field teams analyse every image captured in real time and share it across teams, enabling visual and data-based decision-making.
Adani Electricity is integrating this capability into its digital operations platform, powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
“Soon, every thermal image captured in the field will trigger intelligent workflows, using AI to flag faults, allocate resources, and identify recurring trends,” the spokesperson added.
This digitised loop enables smarter diagnostics, quicker interventions, and long-term resilience of Mumbai’s power infrastructure.
By arming its Power Warriors with cutting-edge tools, Adani Electricity aims to reduce unplanned outages and assure Mumbaikars of a more reliable power supply.
These innovations reflect the company’s broader vision of anticipating infrastructure challenges before they escalate.
“This initiative reinforces our promise to every Mumbaikar – a city that stays switched on, no matter what,” the company said.
