In the wake of rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, authorities have arranged a special train to evacuate players from Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), along with IPL 2025 personnel, from Dharamshala to a safer location.
The emergency measure follows the abrupt suspension of Thursday’s IPL match between PBKS and DC at the HPCA Stadium after just 10.1 overs of play.
Blackouts And Security Concerns Trigger Action
The match came to a halt around 9:30 PM after one of the four floodlights at the stadium went off, causing partial darkness.
As officials gradually shut down the remaining floodlights, the umpires and players returned to the dressing rooms.
Spectators were promptly and calmly evacuated under the supervision of local authorities and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA).
Sources confirmed that air and drone strikes from Pakistan had caused blackouts in nearby regions such as Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, areas close to Dharamshala, prompting the IPL authorities to initiate swift evacuation protocols.
Players And Evacuated IPL Teams
The evacuation covers not just the two teams but also includes match officials, commentators, broadcast crew, and other key personnel involved in the IPL.
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal was seen at the venue helping coordinate efforts and urging fans to exit the stadium.
A source told the media on Friday that authorities have arranged a special train to evacuate both teams, broadcast crew members, match officials, commentators, and other key IPL-related personnel from Dharamshala, but they can’t share further details due to security concerns.
Future Of IPL 2025 Hangs In Balance
With 12 league matches and the playoffs remaining, uncertainty looms over the future of IPL 2025.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will decide whether to continue the tournament after consulting top officials and receiving guidance from the central government.
The situation remains fluid, and stakeholders are closely monitoring developments in the region.
