
India’s workforce kicked off 2025 with strong momentum, as job applications surged 30% year-on-year in the first quarter, according to Apna’s India at Work – Q1 2025 report.
The platform received 1.81 crore applications, driven by increased participation from women and freshers, along with accelerated hiring across tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
Women Drive Workforce Growth With 62 Lakh Applications
Women submitted over 62 lakh job applications in Q1 2025 — a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This growth stemmed from flexible work arrangements and gender-inclusive hiring practices in sectors like BPO, finance, human resources, and education.
Smaller cities such as Chandigarh, Indore, and Jamshedpur led the charge, with women’s applications more than doubling and outpacing growth in major metro areas.
Freshers Record 46% Surge In Job Applications
Freshers also contributed significantly, submitting over 66 lakh applications, a 46% rise from the previous year.
Smaller cities, including Warangal, Jabalpur, and Prayagraj, recorded 20–50% growth in applications, highlighting a shift in corporate hiring strategies beyond traditional urban centres.
Over 70% of new fresher users on Apna held formal degrees or professional certifications, matching the increasing demand for job-ready, skilled talent.
Job Postings Rise 26%; Led By SMBs And Enterprises
Employers posted more than 3.1 lakh jobs on Apna in Q1 2025, marking a 26% year-on-year increase.
Small and medium businesses (SMBs) led the hiring wave with 2.1 lakh job postings, while major enterprises such as LIC, Flipkart, and Paytm added over 1 lakh roles.
SMBs also prioritised diversity, posting 28,547 women-specific roles — a 51% rise compared to the previous year.
Tech Talent In High Demand; Non-Metros Emerge As Hubs
Demand for tech professionals soared, with developer job postings increasing by 65%.
Cities like Rajkot, Indore, and Lucknow emerged as rising tech hubs, driven by India’s expanding digital infrastructure and the widespread adoption of remote work models.
Hiring Expands Beyond Metros
Commenting on the trends, Apna CEO Nirmit Parikh said, “From Delhi to Dehradun, India’s hiring landscape is being reshaped by inclusion, technology, and ambition. The future of work is no longer centred in metros — it’s everywhere.”
Strong hiring trends, rising inclusivity, and digital expansion are positioning India’s job market for continued growth in 2025.
