Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended his heartfelt congratulations to Lawrence Wong after his party, the People’s Action Party (PAP), secured a sweeping victory in Singapore’s general elections.
The triumph marked the PAP’s 14th consecutive term in office, affirming the public’s continued support.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi praised Wong’s leadership and emphasised the enduring and multifaceted India-Singapore partnership.
“Heartiest congratulations, Lawrence Wong, on your resounding victory in the general elections. India and Singapore share a strong and multifaceted partnership, underpinned by close people-to-people ties. I look forward to continue working closely with you to further advance our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” he posted.

PAP’s Resounding Victory
The People’s Action Party delivered an improved performance compared to the 2020 elections, winning 87 out of 97 parliamentary seats and boosting its vote share to 65.6 per cent, up from 61.2 per cent.
The result underscored public confidence in the leadership transition from Lee Hsien Loong to Lawrence Wong.
Wong, who formally succeeded Lee as Prime Minister, expressed gratitude to voters on X, writing, “Singaporeans have given the @PAPSingapore a clear and strong mandate to govern. I am humbled by and grateful for the faith you have placed in me and my team.”

Deepening India-Singapore Ties
India and Singapore enjoy a robust and time-tested relationship, elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during PM Modi’s visit to Singapore in September 2024.
The relationship spans trade, defence, education, fintech, and digital innovation.
Shared democratic values, economic priorities, and a vibrant diaspora further cement their connection.
Since taking office in 2014, PM Modi has visited Singapore five times, underscoring India’s strategic interest in the region.
His visits have included major bilateral meetings, public engagements, and international summits.
Notably, PM Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to deliver the keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in 2018 and the first Head of Government to address the Singapore FinTech Festival the same year.
PM Modi’s congratulatory message reflects India’s intent to continue expanding bilateral cooperation under Lawrence Wong’s leadership.
