Dr Ambedkar International Center (DAIC) organized the first Dr Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on April 14, 2025, to mark the 134th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.

The event took place at Bhim Hall, DAIC, New Delhi, at 6 PM.

Hon’ble Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai of the Supreme Court delivered the keynote address. DAIC Director Dr Akash Patil presided over the session.

Justice Gavai Highlights Ambedkar’s Vision & Legacy

Justice Gavai spoke about Dr Ambedkar’s role as more than just the architect of the Constitution. He described him as a great economist, jurist, educationist, social reformer, and sociologist.

Gavai said Dr Ambedkar promoted education in backward regions like Marathwada to empower deprived communities.

Justice Gavai emphasized Ambedkar’s commitment to women’s rights. He quoted Dr Ambedkar, saying, “Women in India are even more oppressed than Dalits.”

He stressed that gender equality was central to Ambedkar’s social reform mission.

Personal Reflections Add Emotional Depth

Justice Gavai also shared a personal note. He recalled his father’s involvement in Dr Ambedkar’s social justice movement.

“Whatever I am today is because of Dr Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution,” he said with emotion.

He credited Dr Ambedkar’s vision for the rise of Dalits, backward classes, and women in modern India. He pointed to achievements like a Dalit Chief Justice, hundreds of IAS-IPS officers, and a woman Prime Minister as proof of Ambedkar’s impact.

The program ended with a vote of thanks and the national anthem. Attendees paid tribute to Dr Ambedkar and reflected on his transformative legacy.
