On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, hailing him as a true servant of humanity and a tireless crusader for social equality.

Commemorating Phule’s birth anniversary, PM Modi praised his groundbreaking contributions to the upliftment of marginalized communities and his enduring impact on Indian society.

Sharing a message on social media, the Prime Minister wrote, “Respectful tribute to Mahatma Phule, a true servant of humanity, on his birth anniversary. He dedicated his life to the welfare of the exploited and deprived sections of society. His invaluable contribution to the country will continue to inspire every generation.”

PM Modi Highlights Phule’s Fight Against Social Injustice

In a special video message, PM Modi delved deeper into Mahatma Phule’s revolutionary efforts to combat social discrimination and promote education, especially for women.

The Prime Minister further emphasized Phule’s foundational work in advocating for equal rights and inclusive education.

“Mahatma Phule has left a deep impact on Indian society. He fought against social discrimination and inequality, and worked to empower every individual. Through the Satyashodhak Samaj, he laid the groundwork for social change,” the Prime Minister said.


PM Modi also underlined Phule’s pioneering role in girls’ education, adding, “In an era where educating girls was unheard of, Mahatma Phule opened schools for daughters and raised his voice against female feticide. He believed the status of women reflected the status of any society. I urge every parent to take inspiration from his life and ensure education for their girl child.”

National Leaders Echo PM’s Sentiments

Other top leaders across the political spectrum also joined in remembering Mahatma Phule’s legacy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage through a social media post in Hindi, stating, “Salutations to the great social reformer, educationist, and thinker Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Ji. He devoted his entire life to empowering the underprivileged and became a pioneer of women’s education in modern India.”


Shah further applauded Phule’s work through the Satyashodhak Samaj, recognizing it as a cornerstone in India’s fight against social evils.

State Leaders Reflect On Phule’s Enduring Legacy

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid his respects via social media, calling Mahatma Phule a ‘committed social reformer’ and a ‘strong voice for the deprived and neglected’.

He added, “His struggle against the caste system, inequality, and illiteracy is not just inspiring it is a guide for humanity.”

Similarly, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis commemorated Phule’s vision and relentless efforts to create a more inclusive society.


“Salutations to the visionary who fought for social justice, equality, and women’s education KrantiSurya Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on his birth anniversary,” he wrote.

A Legacy That Continues To Inspire

Born in 1827, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule is widely regarded as one of India’s earliest and most influential social reformers.

He led movements against caste discrimination, untouchability, and gender inequality and however played a pioneering role in establishing educational institutions for women and the oppressed.
