PM Modi Prays At Mukhwa’s Mukhimath Temple, Boosts Uttarakhand’s Winter Tourism

PM Modi visited Mukhwa village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, where he offered prayers at the Mukhimath Temple. His visit comes as part of the state’s Winter Tourism program to promote religious tourism and local businesses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the revered Mukhimath Temple in Mukhwa village, Uttarkashi which is known as the winter abode of Goddess Ganga. on Thursday Morning.

The visit marks an important step in promoting Uttarakhand’s Winter Tourism program, aimed at boosting both religious tourism and local businesses.

Winter Tourism Promotion

During his visit, PM Modi praised the state’s efforts to foster winter tourism, which has already attracted thousands of visitors to religious sites such as Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

This initiative aims to enhance the state’s cultural and religious heritage while supporting local industries, including homestays and other tourism-related businesses.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami warmly welcomed PM Modi upon his arrival at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun.

The region saw the Prime Minister’s visit as a historic moment.

CM Dhami highlighted the significance of Modi’s visit, emphasizing that it would help establish Mukhwa on the global tourism map and strengthen the state’s religious heritage.

Prayers At Mukhimath Temple

PM Modi performed rituals at the Mukhimath Temple, where the idol of Goddess Ganga is placed during the winter months.

The transfer of the idol occurs annually when the Gangotri Temple closes due to heavy snowfall, with the idol worshipped in Mukhwa until the temple reopens in the summer.

Modi expressed his excitement for this special visit to the winter residence of Maa Ganga.

The Prime Minister also reiterated his support for promoting winter tourism, noting that the Uttarakhand government’s initiative has been beneficial to local businesses.

He highlighted that the program offers economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs, including those in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

Modi’s visit is part of a broader push to develop the state’s economy through religious tourism and infrastructure development.

Infrastructure Development: Ropeway Projects

In line with his vision for better connectivity, PM Modi’s visit coincided with the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approval of two major ropeway projects in Uttarakhand.

These projects will enhance access to pilgrimage sites such as Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib, significantly improving connectivity for visitors and creating employment opportunities.

The government expects to build the 12.9 km ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath at a cost of ₹4,081 crore, while the 12.4 km ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib will cost ₹2,730 crore.

Both projects aim to boost tourism and drive socio-economic development in the region.

PM Modi’s visit and the announced projects align with the government’s broader goal of improving infrastructure and creating sustainable tourism opportunities in Uttarakhand.

These initiatives promise to support the local economy and further establish the state as a key religious tourism destination.
